Australia will welcome 1,000 Vietnamese workers to work in agriculture.

Australia will welcome 1,000 Vietnamese workers to work in agriculture in the near future. This information was officially confirmed following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Australia in March 2024. According to the agreement between the two countries, the program supporting Vietnamese workers to work in Australia’s agricultural sector will officially begin in 2024, with the projected number of participants reaching up to 1,000 people.

1,000 Vietnamese Workers Going to Australia for Agricultural Work

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs announced that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Australia and the Government of Vietnam regarding the support for Vietnamese citizens to participate in the agricultural sector in Australia was published on the morning of March 7 in the capital city of Canberra, during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Australia.

The two nations have agreed to implement a plan to support 1,000 Vietnamese workers to participate in Australia’s agricultural sector under the PALM program, expected to begin in 2024.

Previously, on March 1, 2024, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan and Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski signed the Implementation Plan for the MoU between the two governments to support Vietnamese citizens in participating in the agricultural sector in Australia.

"As nations focused on exports, we see opportunities to create jobs for both Australians and Vietnamese," the Australian Prime Minister announced, confirming an agreement to facilitate 1,000 Vietnamese workers to work in Australia’s agricultural sector to address the labor shortage in the country.

"The workers are expected to start arriving this year," Anthony Albanese announced.

Australia and Vietnam will work together to identify, approve, and announce the list of eligible Vietnamese businesses to participate in the PALM program.
